About

Detroit Dog Park

We are a group of Detroit-area dog lovers who are working hard to bring a dog park to the city of Detroit.

Board of Directors

Shunda Burks is an IT Engineer and she has two awesome fur-kids, Tres and Remi (both rescued). She loves Detroit and loves dogs, so why not be a part of something you love? She wants it noted that she is putting her heart and soul into DDP.

Mary Lorene Carter is one of the principals of Loveland Technologies, an internet startup that deals with Detroit land use issues. She has a black lab/shepherd mix that goes everywhere with her, and is likely one of the most popular dogs in Detroit.

Tony Dillof is a professor at Wayne State University Law School.  He and his trusty lab-mix, Jojo, are out every weekday picking up litter on the Dequindre Cut and on Belle Isle Sunday mornings.

Jarrod Kudzia is a Systems Administrator for the Detroit Medical Center and hopeless dog lover. He lives in Grosse Pointe Park with his extremely tolerant wife and slightly off hound mix, Luna, who thinks everyday should be Dog Party day.

Carly Mys helps manage a residential high rise in downtown Detroit. She lives with two retrievers that ask her for a dog park every day.

Gail Powell works for Barton Malow Company, a major construction company based in Southfield MI. Her brother use to bring home strays as a child, so pets in the family were common growing up. She has owned several dogs as an adult; most recently a black lab/spaniel mix named Shadow that she adopted 11 years ago from the Michigan Humane Society. Shadow is no longer with us, but Gail looks forward to finding another “special” four-legged companion.

Megha Satyanarayana is a professional writer who has worked in Detroit for about four years. She has a border collie and an Aussie that herd everything, including her.

Dean P. Simmer is a bunch of stuff, but mostly he’s a teacher at Detroit Cristo Rey High School in Southwest Detroit. He’s the husband to an opera singer and the dad to a Newfoundland/lab mix, Bear, who can’t wait to walk to the Detroit Dog Park from his Corktown porch.

Sarah Zagacki is a freelance designer and art director for a media publishing company. She lives on the Detroit border with fiance Justin and quirky lab mix, Calvin, who loves being involved in everythingallthetimeforever.
